Introduction
Message from the Director, IIM Indore
At the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore), we believe that true leadership is not just about managing change but inspiring it. With this ethos, we established ANVESHAN, our Centre of Excellence in Waste Management and WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. In collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), ANVESHAN is anchored in the spirit of Swachh Bharat and aims to create scalable, actionable solutions for waste management and WASH by bringing together academic rigour, administrative collaboration, and community engagement.

ANVESHAN is a clarion call for research, innovation, and transformation in urban sustainability. As India leads the charge in reimagining cleanliness and sanitation, ANVESHAN positions IIM Indore at the heart of this movement, in Indore, the cleanest city in India.
At the core of ANVESHAN lies a bold vision: to build capacity and capability in urban governance through cutting-edge training, evidence-based policy recommendations, and global collaborations. We train mayors, municipal commissioners, councillors, and city leaders, equipping them not just with knowledge but with the foresight to implement sustainable and citizen-centric solutions.
Our global partnerships with institutions like the University of Denver, Rutgers University, the University of Liverpool, the University of Glasgow, and Bocconi University ensure that ANVESHAN stays future-ready and globally aligned.
What makes ANVESHAN unique is our deep-rooted ethos of national relevance with global excellence. With ANVESHAN, we reaffirm our role as an institution committed not only to academic brilliance but also to inclusive development. Through research, outreach, and on-ground impact, we seek to empower India’s cities and their leadership to create a cleaner, greener, and more dignified future for every citizen.
I take immense pride in the transformative journey that ANVESHAN has embarked upon. I invite all stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, practitioners, and the public, to be a part of this mission. Together, let us envision and enable the sustainable cities of tomorrow.
