Trash to Treasure Challenge

The ANVESHAN Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Waste Management at IIM Indore hosts the "Trash to Treasure Challenge," an innovative competition designed to address waste management issues. Aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, this challenge invites students to propose sustainable solutions for waste reduction, focusing on practical and impactful ideas. The competition received entries from top institutions across India, with students presenting ideas in areas such as biogas production, eco-friendly products, and electric vehicle batteries. After three rounds of evaluations, Team Inscius from IMI New Delhi emerged as the winner with their idea to convert organic waste into ethanol. The event fostered collaboration, enhanced students' problem-solving skills, and highlighted the potential for transformative change in waste management. It also created valuable networking opportunities and inspired future research in sustainable practices.

Shape the Waste Creative Poster Design Competition

ANVESHAN, the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Waste Management at IIM Indore, successfully hosted the "Shape the Waste Creative Poster Design Competition" as part of its ongoing mission to promote sustainability and cleanliness. The event, aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 (SBM 2.0), invited college students across India to create poster designs reflecting the theme "Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao," which focused on raising awareness about sanitation, hygiene, and disease prevention. The competition garnered significant attention, with 184 students registering and 61 unique poster submissions received online via the Unstop platform. The competition culminated in the recognition of Muskan Verma from Government Medical College, Amritsar, as the first runner-up, who was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a certificate. Beyond the competition, the initiative successfully engaged students, generated awareness about cleanliness, and contributed to the ongoing national dialogue on sanitation and hygiene. This event not only showcased creativity in addressing critical societal issues but also set the groundwork for future outreach programs aimed at further promoting sustainability and cleanliness through creative expressions.

Vivitsa – 2025

Vivitsa 2025, hosted by ANVESHAN – Centre of Excellence at IIM Indore, was a national sustainability challenge held on February 1–2, 2025, bringing together over 3,000 students from leading Indian institutions, including IITs, IIMs, NLUs, and IIITs. The event served as a dynamic platform for students to design real-world solutions in areas such as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), waste management, and climate resilience, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and India’s Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. Vivitsa featured six major competitions, including a business plan challenge, crisis simulations, data analytics for air quality, and creative campaigns on behavioural change. Participants also engaged in cultural outreach through street plays, flash mobs, and a sustainability quiz. The event fostered cross-disciplinary collaboration among students in management, law, engineering, and design, resulting in innovative, scalable solutions. With a ₹3,00,000+ prize pool, Vivitsa celebrated ideas with genuine potential for impact. By blending innovation, advocacy, and action, Vivitsa 2025 reaffirmed ANVESHAN’s mission to inspire future sustainability leaders and serve as a catalyst for transformative, community-driven change.

International Conference: Towards Garbage-Free Cities: Innovations in Waste Management and Sustainability

In partnership with MoHUA, the Government of India, the IIM Indore’s Centre of Excellence- ANVESHAN organised an international conference titled “Towards Garbage-Free Cities: Innovations in Waste Management and Sustainability” on October 10, 2024, at IIM Indore Campus. The event gathered eminent experts, academics, and thought leaders from across the globe. It aimed to encourage a dialogue on sustainable waste management practices and promote innovative solutions for cleaner cities. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics to explore the latest innovations in waste management. Aligned with India’s Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0), the conference promoted innovative solutions for urban waste challenges, building sustainable cities, and accelerating the transition towards a circular economy. The conference spotlighted the convergence of academic research, public policy, and industry action. It embodied ANVESHAN’s vision of driving real-world impact through interdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing, and inclusive collaboration. Keynote sessions featured prominent international voices: • Prof. Uttiyo Raychaudhuri (University of Denver) emphasized the shift toward regenerative living and the role of wastewater surveillance in public health. • Prof. Andrea Sianesi (Politecnico di Milano) presented Milan’s pioneering circular economy practices within luxury industries. • Prof. Belgin Okay-Somerville (University of Glasgow) shared a human-centred approach, highlighting sustainable HR practices that enhance societal wellbeing. The conference hosted over a dozen paper presentations across three key tracks: Solid Waste Management, Sustainability, and Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. Prathamesh Rale (IIT Indore) was awarded Best Paper for his work on forecasting solar e-waste trends using ARIMA models. The event reinforced ANVESHAN’s role as a strategic knowledge hub, inspiring cross-sectoral partnerships and advancing India’s leadership in sustainable urban transformation.

IIM-I to Train Officials in Waste Management

Indore: The Indian Institute of Management, Indore, (IIM-I) on Tuesday launched a Centre of Excellence for Waste Management and WASH (water, sanitation & hygiene). The centre named 'Anveshan' will train officials of urban bodies, policy makers, welfare associations, hotels and hospitals in waste management and WASH. The first batch of trainees will include municipal commissioners from different parts of the country and training will commence from July 31, 2023.

MP: 21 CMOs Participate In Sustainable Development Courses At IIM-Indore

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): IIM-Indore commenced a new batch of 21 Chief Municipal Officers (CMOs) with a Customised Management Development Programme on Tuesday. Prof Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, under the institute’s Centre of Excellence, ANVESHAN, inaugurated the batch.
